[SOLVED] Epiphany doesn't start - Settings schema error

Hi all,
I have this problem with epiphany from the Arch repos (version 50.3-1), where the program immediately crashes upon launch. This is what gets printed on the command line:

(epiphany:17331): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: 14:55:30.984: Settings schema 'org.gnome.Epiphany.web' does not contain a key named 'enable-cookie-banner'
Aborted (core dumped) epiphany

The flatpak version seems to work fine, in contrast (at least, it doesn't throw that error). I use GNOME as a DE (version 1:50.1-1 of the shell).
I already opened a bug report, but maybe someone here has had the same experience. The developers there suggested that I could have an old gschema file for epiphany in one of the $XDG_DATA_DIRS directories, or in my home. The only one I found was /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.epiphany.gschema.xml, which is also what pacman shows:

I tried the following:

  • manually remove the file, try to launch epiphany anyway

  • manually remove the file, then uninstall and reinstall epiphany

  • remove epiphany with pacman -Rn and reinstall it

  • create a new user

  • disable all the extensions

but in all of the above cases, I still get the error.

Aha, that was it. In the strace output I saw

[pid 91600] openat(AT_FDCWD, "/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/gschemas.compiled", O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC <unfinished ...>

and then some attempts at opening other files around the filesystem that returned a "-1 ENOENT" error.
The first one is the correct file, installed by the epiphany package, the other one, in /usr/local/share, was a file last modified in 2022 (!) that was clearly stuck at the old schema. Judging by the order of the output above, I guess that the /usr/local/share one from four years ago overrid the correct and more recent one in /usr/share, causing the error.
