The "soft requirements" for steam heeded? https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Steam#Installation -- notably having an en_us utf8 locale generated and since it's failing this early, the info regarding DNS servers/networking setup

xorg-xwayland is installed. I have just checked that list and everything seems to be in order. As far as I know, nothing has changed with my network setup since last week, at which point steam did not yet have this issue.

1. does it work in an actual X11 session (openbox will do for a test)?
2. the output in #1 in the *only* output? Is there a stale steam process (after running steam)?
