Japanese character input ibus-kkc broken

was working fine, but i didn't use it for a while - after a few updates, i recently went to use it and it's broken. tried reinstalling package, restarting, etc. but with ibus as my input method editor i can no longer use the Kana Kanji input. english works fine, as does SKK (simple kana kanji). i can select it from the tray icon or with my keyboard shortcut (super + space), but it is unresponsive and eventually kicks me back to english or skk.

thanks!

Re: Japanese character input ibus-kkc broken

https://github.com/ueno/ibus-kkc hasn't been udpated in 5 years
Does it produce errors or coredumps in the system journal?
On what kind of session are you running this (desktop and display server)

for a while

Any chance to quantify that? Day-while, month-while or i-used-it-before-my-child-was-born-and-am-now-a-grandparent-while ?

i haven't looked in the system journal before - is there a tutorial for how to browse it for the pertinent info? didn't see any wiki pages that jumped out immediately.

i am using xfce4. i would quantify "a while" as a couple months at most. probably last used it a couple updates ago. ibus-kkc is the input system that i've gotten used to and makes the most sense to me; i suppose i could try its Fcitx5 implementation if it can't be resurrected on this install for whatever reason.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Systemd/Journal

sudo journalctl -b

will print the current journal (you need to be root or in the adm/wheel group)

Are you https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xfce#U … nd_support ?

Re: Japanese character input ibus-kkc broken

Same issue here, the problem seems to be marisa updating and having different symbols than the unupdated kkc has. See here:
https://github.com/ueno/libkkc/issues/50
https://github.com/chimera-linux/cports/issues/4634

Running kkc with current (marisa-0.3.1-1) version will show this

kkc: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libkkc.so.2: undefined symbol: _ZN6marisa4Trie4mmapEPKc

If you downgrade to 0.2.7-1 kkc will work again, but the keybind to change from kana back to latin does not seem to work (latin to kana does) so you have to manually change using the tray icon instead.

Is this something that can be fixed by the packagers or are we screwed since upstream is kind of dead?

Edit: I'm having issues with things like ctrl-c/ctrl-v getting eaten in firefox, journalctl spams

xdg-desktop-portal-gtk[2045]: Events queue growing too big, will start to drop.

so I think I'll just keep ibus closed when I don't need it for now.
