Hi everyone,
I'm running Arch Linux and recently updated to Gnome 50. I've encountered a strange issue:
After my monitor has been turned off for a long time, when I turn it back on and try to play videos (using mpv), I see heavy frame drops and stuttering. While this is happening, nvtop shows that GPU utilization drops significantly.
If I switch windows (e.g. Alt+Tab to another app and back), the problem temporarily goes away, but it comes back again after a while.
This issue only occurs with the MPV player. When I use VLC or a web-based player (e.g. YouTube in Firefox/Chrome), everything works fine. Furthermore, I have attempted to enable/disable hardware acceleration, but it didn't work.
I initially thought it was related to AMD FreeSync, but after further testing I found that the real cause is simply the long screen-off state. Disabling FreeSync does not actually solve it – instead, simply power-cycling the monitor (turning it off and on again) or reboot system fixes the issue, without changing any settings.
System details:
CPU: AMD R5 7500F
RAM: 16G×2 6000 CL36
Motherboard: Maxsun Terminator B650M WiFi
GPU: AMD Radeon 9060XT 16G
Mesa version: 26.0.4-1
Mpv version: v0.41.0
Can anyone help me solve this problem?
Thanks in advance.
