I have been using this system for about a year now. I haven't had much issues with it. My friend and I decided to play some games, but my headphone microphone wasn't working. I think it is a detection issue, I tried some settings and such. No platform seems to use it. I rebooted several times, updated several times, followed the pipewire installation and muted/unmuted both the pc and my headphone several times to make sure it wasn't as simple as muted.
Maybe it is hardware? Headphone is Steel Series Arctis Nova 1. It is plugged in through 3,5 mm Jack. My friend tried it on his windows pc, it worked fine it seems. I didn't inform him of the problem at first, and he communicated with his teammates normally.
I asked claude for help, but ended up not solving the issue. I am questioning if I even installed the audio properly. I asked the ai for a little diagnosis script. It should be better than anything. If there is anything muted that should be unrelated to the issue. I just booted the laptop, maybe it opens up as muted. As I said, I tried the combinations. Unless the buttons don't work then idk.

hey your headset is working fine. from what i can see, its just that your headset mic isnt selected. Your connected to analog-input-internal-mic, whereas ur headset mic is analog-input-headset-mic. just go to pavucontrol, go to input devices and choose ur headset mic. or you could try this
wpctl statusfind ur headset mic's id.
wpctl set-default [id] or maybe your jack is DUMB
go to sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf
add this line: options snd-hda-intel model=headset-mode
and reboot. that usually fixes things.

I swear I tried that before.... How come it works now? Maybe it needed a reboot or something? Steam didn't see the mic before. I tried all sorts of stuff, alsamixer, pavucontrol, pwcontrol, qpwgraph. I didn't know a thing on what I was doing, but tried a lot.
Now it works. I still have a fear that my audio setup is false for some reason. OBS says pulseaudio on output capture, and ALSA on input capture. shouldn't it say pipewire? I should do some more reading I guess.
