A recent system update caused the situation in the title. This has happened to me before, unfortunately I did not document the solution. I have been able to use this (Dell 1680x1050_60, my only display) monitor normally when booting with my card disconnected. Additionally only the card does not give output after waking from suspend. My assumption is that this means the card, most likely its configuration, is at fault. I reinstalled nvidia-580xx-dkms-580.126.18-2-x86_64 and nvidia-580xx-utils-580.126.18-2-x86_64 and xorg to no result. modeset=1 does not seem to help.

AUR packages and their updates are your responsibility, the current version of the 580xx drivers is 580.159.03-1 https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/nvidia-580xx-dkms -- right now nvidias kernel module doesn't really exist on your system
This being a kernel module it can and potentially will be incompatible with new kernel versions, when running an update that contains the kernel pacman will attempt to rebuild your kernel modules with a post upgrade DKMS hook, if anything (while you should pay attention to the process as a whole) make sure you at least read that part during an update and it's likely that failed.
So make sure you are actually updated to the newest version/set of packages of this driver, pay attention to the dkms part of the package installation/update and retry after that. Also while it shouldn't have worked without it in the first place, make sure the kernel-headers are installed.

"Update to the latest drivers."
Yeah, that's something I probably did without thinking last time. Thank you V1del.
