Login Screen - Wallpaper stuck

Hi everyone!

My login screen always shows the same wallpaper and I CANT change it - that's the issue, I have tried all sorts of advice from Google, web searches in other forums, asking AI LLMs for help, and the result still the same, the wallpaper from the login screen is always the same - of course I've tried to change using the options from display configuration > login screen > configure appearance (I did many times) but no success either.

I've tried to modify the /etc/plasmalogin.conf:

[Greeter][Wallpaper][org.kde.image][General]
Image=file:///var/lib/plasmalogin/wallpapers/Utterly-Sweet
SlidePaths=/home/alex/.local/share/wallpapers/,/usr/share/wallpapers/

I've deleted the cache ~/.cache/*  and nothing different whatsoever... it is stuck always on the same wallpaper.

It is a fresh installation, and it was working and suddenly it stopped, it is like something I might have changed and didn't notice until this wallpaper showed up, probably when I installed a new Global Theme, that's the only thing I changed in my OS and nothing else since -  it is a small thing but quite annoying and I'm a newbie

I'm running Arch Linux with the following configuration:

OS: Arch Linux x86_64
Kernel: Linux 7.1.2-arch3-1
Packages: 13 (flatpak), 918 (pacman)
DE: KDE Plasma 6.7.2
WM: KWin (Wayland)

Hello!

I guess there is a chance 'sudo journalctl' (with -f for live follow) reveals a backend error when trying to apply the settings.

The issue may be discussed/reported at https://discuss.kde.org/ and/or https://bugs.kde.org/.

AFAIK, SDDM (display manager, login screen) config files are independent of Plasma. Years ago when I used them together, there was at least one instance where Plasma was unable to update them.  Plasma apparently has since forked SDDM for its built-in Greeter, but maybe kept the independent config files?

thanks for the links! I think your recommendation is spot on for the issue I'm facing, I will create an account and post my issue there, hopefully somebody might have an answer to help repair my OS

After following espresso's recommendation, I did some research at the KDE forum, and It seems to a well known issue:

I think we can close this thread and leave this link for anybody to visit the KDE forum where this is being properly addressed.
