[SOLVED] pacman (upgrade from 7.1.3 -> 7.1.4) breaks Discover

After doing:

Packages (33) appstream-1.1.4-1  appstream-qt-1.1.4-1  archlinux-appstream-data-20260722-1
              boost-libs-1.91.0-2  ca-certificates-mozilla-3.126-1  cryptsetup-2.8.7-1
              gdal-3.13.2-1  giflib-6.1.3-2  kimageformats-6.28.1-1  kirigami-addons-1.13.1-1
              lame-4.0-1  lib32-libnm-1.58.0-1  lib32-libva-2.24.1-1  lib32-nss-3.126-1
              libdovi-3.4.0-1  libdvdread-7.1.1-1  libnm-1.58.0-1  libssh-0.12.1-1
              libtool-2.6.2-1  libwacom-2.19.1-1  linux-7.1.4.arch1-1  linux-headers-7.1.4.arch1-1
              networkmanager-1.58.0-1  nss-3.126-1  onetbb-2023.1.0-1  opencv-5.0.0-7
              openssh-10.4p1-3  python-sentry_sdk-2.66.0-1  srt-1.5.6-1  svt-av1-4.2.0-1
              syntax-highlighting-6.28.1-1  taglib-2.3.1-1  vivaldi-8.1.4087.56-1

Seems something breaks Discover ( KDE Plasma ) because when I open it, I get flatpak not installed etc., even trying to reinstall the entire Plasma won't fix it. I don't have the exact error now because in panic I did a full system restore from a backup but I thought maybe someone else sees this issue as well.

Ps. I know it's a stupid way to report a problem but kind'a in a rush now. If I have time, I'll try to update again to see the exact error but probably more people will have this issue soon.

Re: [SOLVED] pacman (upgrade from 7.1.3 -> 7.1.4) breaks Discover

OK, it's one of these causing it: Packages (3) appstream-1.1.4-1  appstream-qt-1.1.4-1  archlinux-appstream-data-20260722-1

Going to install one by one to see which one did it.

Re: [SOLVED] pacman (upgrade from 7.1.3 -> 7.1.4) breaks Discover

The error: "Arch Linux is not configured for installing apps through Discover--only app add-ons. To use Discover for apps, install Flatpak using the pacman package manager. Review Arch Linux's packaging for Discover"

(Reinstalling entire plasma / discover etc. will not fix it, rebuilding cache etc., same, won't fix it.)

I get flatpak not installed etc.

And /is/ flatschpak installed on your system?

If not

Arch Linux is not configured for installing apps through Discover--only app add-ons. To use Discover for apps, install Flatpak using the pacman package manager

how does that "break" discover?

Re: [SOLVED] pacman (upgrade from 7.1.3 -> 7.1.4) breaks Discover

Same here. Simply downgrade appstream and appstream-qt to make Discover work again.

For reference, here's what happens when you try to force launch Discover with the Flatpak backend.

org.kde.plasma.libdiscover: error loading "flatpak-backend" "The library /usr/lib/qt6/plugins/discover/flatpak-backend.so could not be loaded: /usr/lib/qt6/plugins/discover/flatpak-backend.so: undefined symbol: _ZNK9AppStream9Component9addBundleERKNS_6BundleE" QJsonObject({"IID":"org.kde.discover.6.7.3.AbstractResourcesBackendFactory","archlevel":1,"className":"FlatpakBackendFactory","debug":false,"version":396032})

Re: [SOLVED] pacman (upgrade from 7.1.3 -> 7.1.4) breaks Discover

Same thing here. I do not need Discover right now. So I will wait with doing some pacman downgrades. Sorry but my Arch is in Dutch:

Yes, it is. Everything is installed was functioning right before this:  "appstream-qt-1.1.4-1", I updated one at a time and rebooted to see which one caused it. It's definitely  "appstream-qt-1.1.4-1", breaks something somehow.

I have just ran a pacman -Syu that installed the latest appstream package, that solved the problem. My discover start normal now. I would say solved

Nope. I ran it too and it just gives me the "nothing to do", meaning I have the latest version and it is still broken. Even worse actually, considering it was giving the  "Arch Linux is not configured for installing apps through Discover--only app add-ons. To use Discover for apps, install Flatpak using the pacman package manager. Review Arch Linux's packaging for Discover" message before, but now (after a reboot), discover won't even start. Doesn't even give me an error message either, be it by using the terminal or the GUI and looking for it on the journal (systemd says it started when using the GUI, but that is about it).

Other than discover suddenly not even starting after a reboot, my problem seems to be pretty much the same as people described on this thread, down to the message on discover (before reboot), the upgrades before breaking and the fact everything was working fine until this update.

I will try downgrading discover and rebooting and, if that fails, I will try downgrading the packages people pointed out on this thread.

Edit: Downgrading just discover using pacman cache from the "discover-6.7.3-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst" package to the "discover-6.7.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst" package and rebooting seems to have worked flawlessly.

Then your issue has nothing to do with the one reported in this thread.

You might be right. I tried upgrading the package again after your answer to test and now the newest version just worked?! So maybe a temporary installation issue? Weird thing is that I tried reinstalling the package before and it didn't work, but now intentionally downgrading and upgrading again did. Not sure what/how that happened, but it is working, so I won't complain.

Re: [SOLVED] pacman (upgrade from 7.1.3 -> 7.1.4) breaks Discover

I just saw these popup for me: "appstream-1.1.4-2"  "appstream-qt-1.1.4-2", installed, no issues, everything working now. Whatever it was seems to have been solved! Yey! cool

Thank you, to whoever solved it! smile
