Hi everyone,
I've been looking through the forums for a while, but this is one of those issues that I got stuck on.
For context, I've been getting random reboots for a while now and from everything I had found, it seemed like it was caused by a split lock error. So I have disabled it, which in turn now has caused random freezes and reboots that I can't immediately place.
I think the freezes might be caused by nvidia, but haven't been able to reproduce it anymore for the last few days, so I'm not sure.
As for the random reboots, my logs don't seem to show anything I'm aware off, so I thought to come here and ask around.
I see a lot of filter_IN_block_REJECT messages appear before the reboots, no real error.
The setup of my pc is:

NOTE: I know that it would help for the journal logs, but not sure which part would be helpful as I needed to use grub to find the moment it happened in the first place (the reboot happened while I was out) so I'm only pasting this bit for now, unless more is needed:

split_lock_detect defaults to "warn", that doesn't cause any reboots, but might hint at the source of the problem.
Generally though spontaneous reboots are down to
* underpowered
* overheated
* bad CPU
* bad RAM
* hibernating windows (if you're dual booting see the 3rd link below)
Offline
Isn't that one of the 14th gen Intel CPUs that is prone to failure due to overvoltage? Do you have the latest microcode and BIOS updates already?
Split lock likely has nothing to do with this at all. Steam triggers split lock detection constantly if detection is enabled, it doesn't have any effect other than bad performance.

Yes is, good catch.

If it is one of those, it's likely overheating or CPU. The RAM is in good state and power isn't an issue. At one point I thought my PSU might be failing, but turned out the cable was loosened.

Hmmm... that's a good point. I saw the amount of messages from steam (and before spotify), but I eventually turned it off mostly cause I had several random reboots exactly after turning on steam.
I'm gonna check the CPU thing thoughs, cause I was sure I patched it a long time ago, but that's before I migrated to Arch.
In any case, thx for the suggestions. Will look into the cpu situation. Let's hope it's just a small oversight and that I can patch it... I really don't have the budget to replace my CPU, atm ![]()
Will keep this thread updated.

When you turn on Steam, it will put a very heavy load on the CPU, because it often does shader compilations right after being started. So that might be a clue for your situation. You should probably consider running some kind of a stability test too like mprime or gamma cruncher if BIOS and microcode are all up to date.
