Hello, my xfdesktop is failing to start, given the error that it gives, it seems an issue with the last update of the package glycin, version 2.2.3-1.

thread caused non-unwinding panic. aborting.
Aborted (core dumped) RUST_BACKTRACE=full xfdesktopFor now I have "resolved" by rolling back to the previous version: https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/ … kg.tar.zst
I don't know if this is the correct place where report this issue, if not, let me know,
thanks!

Slightly different backtrace, https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glycin/-/work_items/342
Starting xfdesktop by hand after login, with the same wallpaper, works fine. The crash only happens in the first few seconds of the session, so it looks like a startup race rather than a problem with the image itself.
True?

I tried both after some minutes and after about 1 hour, but was still not starting

So not the same problem either => file a bug against glycin resp. there's also https://aur.archlinux.org/packages?O=0&K=noglycin

I have a very similar problem with xfdesktop not starting correctly : after login desktop icon blink and then disapear. I got a black background on the desktop.
Launching manually xfdesktop produce a similar trace as shown in post #1.
Long story:
After upgrading this morning, lightdm start working. I restore it by removeing the package and re-install it. Then once I can login the deskop show a fully black background instead of the picture used. The desktop icon blink and then disapear.
After seeing the first post, I downgrade glycin to version 2.2.2 and this fix the xfdesktop problem (desktop icons and image are back).

Hi Guzzista, I got the same issue.
Rolling back glycin package, solves the problem for me.
How did you find out that glycin is the problem?
When I start xfdesktop, i missing a stacktrace.

Hello @xafnir, I discovered it was glycin by looking at the stacktrace, it is printed in the terminal when I execute xfdekstop (the one I pasted in my first post).
The issue itself seems to appear only when the background is a Jpeg image (but only some of them).
And since glycin is also used by Ristretto image viewer, that also crashes when opening the same jpegs.
I have created an account on Gitlab to report the issue, but now I noticed someone reported it better than me: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glycin/-/work_items/347

\o/
It's also closed/fixed upstream.
Please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.

I confirm the fix upstream, solved. Thanks for the help!
